Team Liberia and Team Egypt before the match
Team Liberia continued their fantastic form with a 7-1 win over Team Egypt as they look to progress to the next round of the Street Child World Cup in Brazil in their second game Tuesday.
Team Liberia is really starting to make an impact on and off the pitch with free flowing football and positive attitudes gaining the attention of the world’s media.
Daniel Nimleh Bowdior again scored a hat trick for a second consecutive game and took his goal tally to seven so far in the tournament. Plus goals from Foday Marah, Leon Frank Jr, Elijah Saysaw and an own goal completed the rout.
The players carried on from their previous victory over South Africa with a high tempo performance full of attacking flair, committed tackles and slick passing.
Bowdior opened the scoring when his long-range effort flew past the Egyptian goalkeeper, then Marah went on a mazy individual run, cutting in from the left, beating two defenders and slotting in to the bottom corner.
Bowdior added two more goals before the break and they were almost identical in finishing as the winger drifted in from the by-line, received the ball on the edge off the area and unleashed powerful shots with his right foot.
Coach Sam Burnette encouraged his side to carry on the second half in the same approach and his words did not fall on deaf ears, as the team quickly extended its lead, Saysaw bundled the ball home from a long throw-in.
A decent corner kick from Saah Mitchell put the Egyptian defense under pressure and they were unfortunate to score an own goal, before heading straight up the other end of the pitch to finish off a swift move.
The biggest cheer of the game was saved for the final goal when Marah put Leon Frank Jr through one on one with the goalkeeper and the midfielder remained composed to dribble around and place the ball into an empty net.
The win puts Liberia on six points, and their next game is crucial as the winner will progress to the knockout round against host Brazil.
